Security, i.e., public safety, should be a major concern for the Olympics, especially since some of the venues will be located in "marginal" communities. Also, traveling through some of these "economically depressed" areas may panic some potential Olympic patrons. There may also be protests or demonstrations staged by the downtrodden when they juxtapose their poverty against the opulence of the Olympic mystique. Increased police presence may not solve the problem either, cf., the 1968 democratic convention. |
