From Reilly Reports --
Navy Pier Aerobaloon
Also approved this week at The Chicago Plan Commission is a new attraction for Navy Pier, a passenger hot air balloon. This project was required to go through Chicago Plan Commission review and approval because it will be situated along the lakefront, within the Lakefront Protection Zone.
Alderman Reilly gave his support for this new attraction for several reasons. Most importantly, there is no permanent construct associated with this attraction which would "litter" our open space with more built structure. Every element associated with the ride will be removed at the end of the season, restoring the appearance of the lakefront off-season.
Also, the addition of a new attraction at the state's number one tourist destination, Navy Pier, keeps our city competitive with other local economies. And the nearest residential neighbor to the attraction, Lake Point Tower Condominium Association, submitted a letter of support for the balloon.
