| "Forever Open, Clear, and Free" Why is the Grant Park Advisory Council so eager to let the Chicago Children’s Museum move in? It is a very good article which is obviously written by someone who has been to many area meetings including the Grant Park Conservancy meetings - this is covered in detail at the beginning. A good paragraph from the article: "Richard Ward was the only person allowed to make a presentation opposing the museum. Ward, the president of the New Eastside Association of Residents, or NEAR (and no relation to the captain of industry), zeroed in on the sections of the old Montgomery Ward court rulings most relevant to the current controversy. In particular, there was an 1897 ruling forbidding the “placing thereon anything... to which the public will not be admitted free” and one from 1902 decreeing that the area be held “in trust for the people of the State that they may enjoy... freed from the obstruction or interference of private parties.”" Take your time and read the full article at Why is the Grant Park Advisory Council so eager to let the Chicago Children's Museum move in? by Lynn Becker So now we have at least the Chicagoist, The Chicago Tribune, and the Chicago Reader coming out against the Children's Museum at the Daley Bi location - oh and it looks like most of the people here at WindyChat.com as well! hey -- I just spotted this article and Lynn Becker's name are referenced on the cover of this week's Reader. I've been telling some co-workers to print it out because it's kind of a long read for the cubicle at work, but now I can hand them a copy :-) anyway, thanks for originally bringing this to our attention, Eric |
