Committee on Zoning on Tuesday, May 20, 10:00 am in City Hall Council Chambers

The Zoning Committee is made up of 14 alderman: William Banks, Vi Daley, Frank Olivo, Ed Burke. Latasha Thomas, Ed Smith, Ike Carothers, Ray Suarez, Carrie Austin, Rey Colon, Tom Allen, Gene Schulter, Bernie Stone, and Margaret Laurino.

Opponents of the Children's Museum proposal are strongly encouraged to testify at the Committee on Zoning on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 10:00 AM in City Hall council chambers.

People should arrive no later then 9:45 but the earlier the better. We can assume the museum will again bus in supporters.

Testimony sign-in sheets will be available upon entry. Chairman Banks has the authority to limit testimony. In the past he has generally allowed 2 minutes.

People should request the committee does not change the Zoning.

Applications are evaluated based on their impact on the community. Effects considered include:

- Conformity with the zoning regulations of the area.

- The development’s size and its effects on neighboring buildings.

- Existing and anticipated traffic volumes.

- Emergency vehicle access to the development to other areas of the neighborhood.

- Existing and proposed amount of parking in the area.

- The amount of proposed open space.

- Amounts of natural light and air flow in the area.

- Impact on public services in the area.

- Impact on any nearby Special Districts and historical landmarks.

- Effect on nearby public open spaces.

- Environmental impact.

See Zoning Designations for more guidelines.
