September 6th, 2008 05:00 AM - A gunman who held a dozen hostages in a Wheaton bank before committing suicide Friday triggered the tense standoff by calling police, authorities said. Michael R. Long, 41, of Wheaton, called 911 about 1:30 p.m. and reported a bogus hit-and-run accident outside the downtown Wheaton Bank & Trust to lure police there, Wheaton Deputy Police Chief Thomas Meloni said. Long slashed the responding officer with a knife and took his handgun, Meloni said.
