This is a discussion on Kenny Johnson, Jr. for State Rep? within the Windy City Chat forums, part of the Windy City Forums category; I got an oversized postcard advertising Kenny Johnson, Jr. for Illinois State Rep of the 26th district. He claims there's ...

| His opponent would be Elga Jefferies, who has accomplished about this: | | much for her constituents in the way of reduced taxes, reduced state spending or increased public transit funding. In fact, Elga's ONLY major contribution since taking office was to sponsor a bill increasing a grant for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families--something I am so sure Elga's wealthiest campaign contributors begged her for during her campaign for office. Elga did sponsor an incredibly minor change in a current Unemployment Insurance Act and made a "technical change" in the usury section of the 1961 criminal code, specifically, a change in the "drug school" language. Thank GOD Elga was on top of that. Elga went on to sponsor a bill that would allow home owners in LEED buildings to receive a tax credit...a bill she later tabled (canceled) for whatever reason. In March, Elga chose to honor, of all the people in her huge district, Jennifer Hudson. In April, Elga chose to honor another all-important and deserving Chicagoan, Geraldine Hooten--some lady who retired from the City of Chicago's Human Resources Dept. But Elga wasn't done yet. In October, Elga formally congratulated the staff of the Prentiss Hospital of Northwestern. Let's hope we have more candidates running for our district that these two.

I found his web site: Kenny Johnson Jr. for State Representative He is a businessman and weekly columnist for the Chicago Defender. I couldn't find a way to pull up an index of his columns so maybe a google search is the best way: site:chicagodefender.com "kenny johnson" - Google Search I'm not finding too much about the election but I assume it is November 4th, 2008? Please correct me if I am wrong. I heard Elga Jefferies speak once and wasn't too impressed, but I am not in a position to judge her record. Thanks for your summary. Maybe you should run ;-D Eric |

There are three things about Kenny Johnson, Jr. that make me wary of how impartial he might be as elected official: He received $5,000 in February from Jesse Jackson Jr.'s wife He's a member of the Rainbow Push coalition He writes for the Chicago Defender

I'm biased, so I'll admit that up front, but I, too, have serious reservations about KJ and other candidates. Please check out this website to learn more about who I believe would be the best person for the job (by far!). Paul Chadha | Candidate for Illinois Sate Representative | 26th District Oh, and by the way, Paul Chadha's website was up months ago and KJ mimicked it exactly (!!!) so if it looks familiar, I can say with certainty that KJ knocked off Paul's website. Kind of ridiculous, really. Thanks, and there is hope for politics so long as we pay attention and elect people who aren't beholden to anyone but their constituents. |

Thanks for the post about Paul Chadha being in the race. What other candidates? Is there a list of all candidates who have announced thus far, Democrat and Republican? Regarding the mimicking, I would imagine that there are templates that politicians use for web sites, especially for small/medium-size races like state representative, I wouldn't be so fast to accuse of stealing a web site layout, maybe they just used the same template. (Perhaps we could contact the webmasters to find out ? ) Eric |

I know the webmaster for Paul Chadha's campaign, and also know that KJ's website came up later. So, take it for what it is; no matter, really. As for a list of candidates, see below (I tried to attach it, but can't quite tell if it worked) -- it's a pretty full field -- should be interesting! I don't see an attachment, what kind of attachment was it? Let me know if I can help you troubleshoot and adjust any limits on this board if necessary or if it's not worth the time, I see all the candidates in your post... Quite interesting to see so many people! God now I have to make up my own mind and be an good voter :-) but that's a positive thing. Thanks for sharing the information. We'll see where it leads.
