More details on topics -- NEW EASTSIDE COMMUNITY MEETING Daley Bicentennial Plaza Fieldhouse, 337 E. Randolph (across from Buckingham and 340) MONDAY @ 6:30pm…Please join your neighbors in a lively town hall discussion to confirm the direction that your New Eastside Association of Residents (NEAR) is working on these issues: 1. Children's Museum (2nd Lawsuit filed) The 1st lawsuit challenges the review process, and the 2nd lawsuit challenges the approval by the City of Chicago. 2. Chicago-2016 Olympic Bid Support How we can positively affect the selection of Chicago, and how we should avoid any actions that would detract from Chicago's bid effort. 3. Electronic Bulletin Board Because our individual building bulletin boards are not available to the rest of your New Eastside neighbors, an electronic online version is being introduced. 4. Elementary School Options Our new local elementary school in on the 2006 list, and some of the locations are no longer available and others are not suitable. We will briefly review attendance guidelines for different types of schools. 5. Harbor-Wacker Connection In 2001, the Chicago Dept. of Planning and all the condo presidents favored the $8 million connection to reduce traffic in half, but the developer and our former alderman vetoed the recommendation. 6. Monroe Garage Reconstruction Why it is needed…Are alternatives available?...Why construction will not start until the museum litigation is resolved. 7. Pedway Completion Responsibility Even though Chicago allowed the current lead developer to dump their financial responsibility in 2001 after 32 years, the written land covenant of 1993 still over-rides…and can be legally enforced. 8. Access to Lighthouse Breakwater We need to regain one of our best New Eastside amenities… Access to the fishing and beautiful skyline views that now only boat owners can fully enjoy. 9. Clean-up of Lower Sidewalks Our lower sidewalks have not been washed naturally with rain for over 100 years (same as CUBS record). There have been some efforts made, but the health threat of bird feces dust requires the attention of every building and the cooperation of the city. |
