Prez race factors into Boeing rebid
August 25th, 2008 02:57 PM - (Crain’s) — A vote for John McCain is a vote against Boeing Co.’s tanker bid, Illinois delegates to the Democratic National Convention were told Monday.
As the presidential race heats up, the U.S. Air Force is probably fighting a losing battle to wrap up by yearend a $35-billion contract for 179 aerial refueling tankers, one of the biggest defense contracts of all time.
The already politicized deal was bound to become an issue in the race, given the presumptive GOP presidential nominee’s role in blocking a controversial Air Force proposal in 2001 to lease tankers from Chicago-based Boeing. He exposed the lease as a sweetheart deal, which resulted in two Boeing executives going to prison. Click here to read article.. |
