Let's All Work Together to Save Our Parks! Protect Our Parks is part of the Save Grant Park Coalition. We see the land grabs in Lincoln Park and Grant Park as very similar in a number of ways:
- in both cases a private institution with clout and connections muscled their way onto public park land, attempting to grab priceless lake front property for their private use
- in both cases the legal process for review and planning were ignored and abused
- in both cases the public's wishes were ignored and defied
- in both cases no alternative sites were considered where the proposed facility would make sense (and be welcomed)
- in both cases thousands of angry neighbors, park lovers and concerned citizens have rallied to protect their parks and demand an end to sweetheart deals and trading away of public land
Protect Our Parks opposes the Children's Museum land grab in Grant Park.
Here's how you can participate:
(1) Call your Aldermen now to tell them to vote NO on putting the Children's Museum in Grant Park. Find your Alderman here: http://www.chicityclerk.com/citycouncil/alderman/find.html
(2) Sign the online petition at http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-grant-park.html.
(3) Come to the City Council Chambers on Wednesday, June 11 at 10am. Bring a sign, perhaps something like "Open and Clear - Hands Off Grant Park!"
(4) For more information, go to www.savegrantpark.org. We're all in this fight to protect our parks together! |
