"A petition opposed to the construction of the Chicago Children's Museum on Grant Park.

"Grant Park has remained uniquely protected open space for 171 years, and should remain "forever open, free and clear" for future generations of Chicagoans --from all corners of the city-- to enjoy."

By the way, someone added it to the "external links" on Wikipedia page for Grant Park --

Here are some of the comments from the first pages...:

__________

This park is free for all people of Chicago. Please do not allow a Museum to move in and destroy one of the few most beautiful parks in the City. It's for ALL to enjoy. Not just for children whom are able to pay $8.00 each time they enter!

Until Aug. 10, 2007, I was a resident of 330 S Michigan Ave, Chicago 60604. My family and I have enjoyed Grant Park and the facilities provided by Dailey-Bi Park district. We do not wish to see this space taken over by the Children's Museum. Please keep this space free and clear. Thank you.

Please use the SAME approval process required in the 1863 Chicago Charter, Sect. 47 that was used in 1891 for the Art Institute, used in 1999 for the Harris Theater, and should be used in 2007 for the Children's Museum: obtain concent from all abutting owners.

The park should be open and free for ever, not for private museums that charge admission fees and enjoy the freebies from taxpayers

A long time condo owner at 400 E Randolph, I am opposed to the CCM moving into Daley Bi. The park should remain "free and clear" and not be approved for private enterprises. Our neighborhood is growing population much faster than any other part of the city with the development of the New East Side and all the condos, rentals, hotels, businesses, theater, school etc. The traffic would be horrendous & dangerous. CCM should move to Northerly Island, beach, lots of land, close to mus campus

Grant Park has remained uniquely protected open space for 171 years, and should remain "forever open, free and clear" for future generations of Chicagoans - from all corners of the city -- to enjoy.

Please let this space in Grant Park remain as intended for not only residents but visitors from all over the world. We need this green for children and as a continuing park area for Chicago.

The Museum planners have never adequately addressed the pedestrian and vehicular traffic congestion that will occur on upper Randolph. Busses may be able to figure out how to use lower Randolph, but all the families that arrive in private automobiles will be wandering around on upper Randolph looking for parking, making U-turns and dropping families off. . . a nightmare in the making!

The Daley Bi Field House, ice rink and North Grant Park is already open to all of the public and children of the city, state, county and the world of all ages! The so-called CCM is only open to those youngest children who pay to use it, maybe 1 time. The Park can be used over and over again, free of charge by everyone of all ages. There are many other more suitable places for the CCM. The Mayor and his rich supporters have ulterior motives; why did the Mayor play the 'race card'?

save the park, it is good for our kids and grand kids!

Please keep the protected park a green one for ALL children.

It's not about the children or race. shame on the mayor for race baiting like that. I am insulted to be called a racist. How many under privledged kids will be able to afford the "museums" admission charge? It's nice that the Pritzkers can afford to make major donations but, does that give them the right to whatever they want in this city? If this goes thru the next thing will be to rename city hall "THE PRITZKER MUNICIPAL BLD"

The location is totally inappropriate for the 200,000 sf attraction. This neighborhood has grown from 5,000 to 25,000 in 7 years without the infrastructure, transportation and environmental concerns addressed. This is our only neighborhood park. With the addition of Millennium Park and with 750,000 - 1 million visitors expected to visit CCM there is ABSOLUTELY NO ROOM to accommodate all these visitors in addition to the needs of the residents w/ roads, transportation, safety, environmental issue

Mayor Daily, Please don't do this. Don't be known as "The Mayor who sold out Grant Park". Don't let this be your legacy.

Save our park, please find a location for the Children's Museum close to the Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium or History Museum.

Why not put the "museum" on the museum campus. The inter-action between them would benefit all and harm none.

So beautiful as is.Peaceful. One of the rare open views left.

Please save this natural space - Chicago is known for protecting and saving the beauty of nature - not for being another New York - put the center in a neighborhood that is truly starving for culture...

Removing what's grown in in Grant Park and displacing the wild life living within it is simply unacceptable! The giant squirrels in that section of Grant Park are famous even throughout the suburbs. Allowing the museum to build, will just open the door for others to exploit a piece of green that's supposed to remain that way. What's next? Condos and a Mall? C'mon, building the new CCM there is not even about the children!

Green space is important to our health, fresh air and impacts how we feel about our city. Special interests are more than welcome to use the park but please stop trying to eat it up our space for your own purposes.

Default My favorite comment from the petition...

"I am African American, make a very modest living and object to CCM moving into Daley Bicentennial Plaza. So, according to Mayor Daley, does that make me one of the high-rise dwellers who want to keep ethnic groups out or one of the ethnic groups who should be kept out? "

I was about to mention that there are 299 signatures and that there will soon be a 300th, but I got distracted for a few minutes and there are already 303! By the way Wendy Cobrin was the 300th.
