From Wikipedia:

"The Chicago Loop is the historical center of Chicago's downtown. It is among the largest central business districts in the United States of America, after Midtown Manhattan.

The Loop is bounded on the west and north by the Chicago River. To the East, the Loop ends at Michigan Ave. although some also say it includes Grant Park all the way to Lake Michigan. The south boundary is Roosevelt Rd.

The value of its real-estate shaped an architectural style dominated by high-rises. Notable buildings include the Home Insurance Building, considered the first skyscraper; the Chicago Board of Trade Building, a National Historic Landmark; and the Sears Tower, the tallest in the United States.

Some of the historic buildings in this district were instrumental in the development of high-rises. Chicago's gridded or rational street numbering system originates in the Loop at the intersection of State Street and Madison Street."

The Chicago Loop Alliance (http://www.chicagoloopalliance.com/)

"CLA was formed in 2005 through the merger of the Greater State Street Council and the Central Michigan Avenue Association. Bordered by Dearborn on the west, Lake Michigan on the east, and Wacker drive on the north, CLA's 40-block service area extends south to Congress along Wabash, State and Dearborn, and to Roosevelt along Michigan Avenue."

In the Loop-Chicago (http://www.intheloop-chicago.com)

"In the Loop - Chicago, Inc. is a destination management company with a more progressive approach to service the needs of today's sophisticated planners—a company that would understand the challenges facing corporate and association planners, and the talent to provide them with fresh ideas and a new spin on traditional services.

"Traditionally, a destination management company ("DMC") offers meeting support and event services within a given city - such as Chicago. As local experts, DMCs provide in-depth information and contacts in the destination, generally working "behind the scenes" to assist a planner with special events, transportation, tours and activities."
