"Some people in the neighborhood have local quality of life concerns about the project [proposed CCM move to Grant Park], just as many people in that neighborhood believe Grant Park needs to be protected- purely based on the principle that Grant Park has been protected for 171 years. So, the residents of the neighborhood have different reasons for opposing the park."

"Obviously Museum officials are focusing in on those who have focused on quality of life, because it makes it seem like its more of a selfish argument. But the bottom line is, there's many people in the neighborhood that are being talked about that oppose it purely on principle. For me, it's based on the history."

More Reilly news - this time about the proposed Children's Memorial hospital in Streeterville.

Quotes from article in the Sun-Times:

"SOAR board member Patty Frost said the organization has been working "with all of the institutions" in the Streeterville area for more than a year to resolve "very serious problems projected for the neighborhood."

"Reilly has drawn a line in the sand when it comes to a new Children's Museum in Grant Park. But he has no intention of blocking a new Children's Memorial Hospital in Streeterville.

"My interest is in building consensus . . . to move the project forward. I want to make sure we address these concerns and get this right before it goes to Plan Commission," he said."

Alderman plays hardball with Children's Memorial (http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/640738,CST-NWS-hosp08.article)

My understanding was the Reilly had not really "drawn the line in the sand" so-to-speak regarding the Children's Museum in Grant Park, but that the CCM administration and Daley were not willing to talk or compromise.
