Metra fares may jump 10 percent for 2008

4:00 AM, Nov 16, 2007 - <B id=red>Updated 11/16:</B> Fares on Metra trains are poised to increase by 10 percent starting Feb. 1.The proposed fare hike is part of an overall 2008 budget approved by the Metra Board of Directors on Friday. The Regional Transportation Authority is expected to take up all three of the Chicago-area transportation service boards' budgets at its Dec. 14 meeting.

Being a Metra rider (about 6 trips per week) I think I can say I wouldn't mind at all if the fares in 2008 went up 10% or even 10% for each of the next three years (total of 40% or 50%) if it meant they kept up the current level of good service.

I am a content Metra rider and I think the service is a bargain.
