Tuesday, February 20, 2007 - 6:30 p.m.
Daley Bicentennial Plaza - 337 E. Randolph just east of Columbus Drive.
With all of the new high-rises, Lollapalooza, and the leasing of the Grant Park garages, Grant Park is generating hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue as it becomes one of the world's most beautiful and cultural parks. It is also an economic engine. Much of this revenue is also going to improve Chicago's neighborhood parks as well as Grant Park.
Grant Park and Chicago 2016 - The Olympics
Please join us for a public meeting on Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympic Games and more detail on how Grant Park and Northerly Island will contribute. Grant Park and Northerly Island will feature prominently into Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympic Games.
Doug Arnot, Chicago 2016 director of operations as well as other planners and architects will give presentations and more detail about the 2016 Olympics and how Grant Park and Northerly Island will help stage part of them.
Below is a list of events and venues:
Archery - Grant Park - Hutchinson Field.
Rowing - Grant Park - Monroe Harbor.
Cycling - BMX and Track - Olympic Sports Complex at Northerly Island.
Beach Volley Ball - Olympic Sports Complex at Northerly Island.
Grant Park/Millennium Park kiosks
We will also show renderings and plans for the new, $10 million, 12th Street Metra Station which will replace the old, dilapidated "Wild West" looking, wooden bridge and station near 12th Street in Grant Park. Construction should begin in March or April of this year - just a stone's throw from the 106 Agora statues which is the site of many confused dogs right now.
Hutchinson Field update - 1600 new flowering crab apple and lilac trees are being planted as a result of our efforts working closely with the Chicago Park District. We will give other new Grant Park landscape updates.
